Welcome to Mrs. Greenwood's 8th Grade Language Arts Class
|
Hello. I am Mrs. Greenwood, and I have been teaching 8B language arts at LMS since 1998. Times have changed, technology has changed, and our state standards have changed; however, the need for effective communication skills has remained one of the most important elements of a good education. I look forward to a great year together!
Basic Classroom Rules
- Be in your seat and ready to participate when the bell rings.
- Have all materials ready: charged Chromebook, planner, homework, pen (blue or black), pencil, loose leaf paper, independent reading book, and textbook (when needed; look for the sign outside the door).
- Raise your hand to join the classroom discussion or ask permission to leave your seat.
- Use appropriate classroom behavior at all times, including treating all people with respect and courtesy.
- Practice academic honesty.

Homework Policy
Homework is to be completed and ready to turn in when you enter the classroom. For each day the assignment is late, one letter grade is automatically deducted from the final score. After the fourth day, HW will not be accepted and will remain a zero in the gradebook.
Absence / Make Up Work
Of course, it is always best to be in class. If an absence is necessary, check online to see what lessons and assignments have been missed. When you return to class, turn in any homework that was due on the first day you were absent. Get copies of any papers you missed or did not get online. Ask Mrs. Greenwood or another student any questions you may have about lessons you missed.
Our school policy allows the number of days missed plus one day to make up work after an absence.

Independent Reading Requirements
You must read every day. You will keep a reading log to track your progress. In addition, your independent reading materials may be used in class as model texts, so you need to bring your independent reading to class every day.
